UPDATE: The Sounds of Space | FRB 121102 & Interview

For anyone mildly interested in Astronomy, Physics, or the universe in general, chances are that you’ve seen the words fast radio burst appearing in recent news at a frequency rivalling even that of our ever-dominating political circus. For anyone not following these headlines; one particular radio burst, FRB 121102, originally thought to be merely a high-energy explosion of an astronomical object, has now not only been pinpointed a host galaxy 3 billion years ago but has been observed to be repeating.

I wrote a short article documenting the process I underwent after finding files available for download on the Harvard database and was very surprised to find that day that these files I had processed and shared quickly reached 250,000 pairs of ears around the world. The next day, I was approached by Spanish online magazine PlayGround for a short interview about the process. The resulting video was beautiful.

With the help of PlayGround, over 4 million people worldwide have now listened to this sound, with an eager few even reaching out to assist with future projects. 4 million people have now been brought that much closer to an understanding of science and technology that simply wasn’t considered important, in order to find an answer to the question that never stops persisting: are we alone?
